A single origin decaf from El Vergel Estate in Colombia, grown between 1650-1950m. Decaffeinated using the sugarcane (EA) method, leaving just 0.1% caffeine while preserving all the flavour. Sweet and smooth with notes of caramel, berries and vanilla — works beautifully as an espresso, flat white, or however you brew it.

About the Producer

El Vergel Estate has been farmed by the Bayter family since 1995. What started as an avocado farm transformed into one of the most celebrated specialty coffee estates in Colombia. Led by Martha Montenegro alongside Elias and Shady Bayter, the estate is known for its innovative decaffeination process — using a special blend of water and ethyl acetate to gently remove caffeine while keeping the flavour intact. A farm built on community, passion, and a genuine commitment to quality.

Jayne and Juan founded Carnival Coffee in South East London after a life-changing cup in Chiapas, Mexico. Juan comes from a coffee-producing family in Medellin, Colombia. They source and roast beautiful speciality coffees with loads of flavour, always respecting the farmers behind the beans. The Sugarcane process is a natural method of removing caffeine using ethyl acetate, a compound derived from sugarcane. The green coffee beans are gently steamed to open their structure, then washed with ethyl acetate, which binds specifically to the caffeine and removes it while leaving most of the flavour compounds intact.

The beans are then steamed again to remove any remaining residue and dried before roasting. This method helps preserve sweetness, body, and origin character, resulting in a smooth, balanced cup without the caffeine.
