ABOUT THE BEANS

Grown in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke District at 1600–2100 metres, these Red Bourbon beans are processed using an experimental anaerobic washed method. The result is a bright, elegant cup with notes of cherry, berries and a delicate, tea-like finish.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Rugori, meaning “Women’s Crown,” is produced by Gasharu Coffee and entirely grown and processed by women. The project honours the vital role women play in Rwanda’s coffee community and ensures their work is recognised and financially rewarded.

ABOUT THE ROASTER

Coborn Coffee was founded to make high-quality, ethically sourced coffee accessible. They exclusively source from named female producers or majority women-owned farms, aiming to support fair pay while keeping great coffee affordable.

More About Rugori - Rwanda

Anaerobic washed coffee is a modern processing method where the beans are fermented without oxygen before being washed and dried.

After harvesting, the coffee cherries (or sometimes pulped beans) are placed in sealed tanks to ferment in an oxygen-free environment. This controlled process enhances flavour development. The beans are then washed and dried like a traditional washed coffee.

What to expect in the cup:
Clean and structured like a washed coffee, but with more intensity and complexity, often showing bold fruit notes, sweetness, and sometimes wine-like or funky characteristics.

In short:
Clean and bright, with an extra layer of bold, complex flavour.
